West Bengal SSC Teacher Recruitment 2025: Notification To Be Released Today After Late-Night Talks
Kolkata | May 30, 2025
The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) will publish the official notification for the recruitment of school teachers today, May 30, following intense deliberations that went on late into Thursday night. This comes just ahead of the May 31 deadline set by the Supreme Court for the state to begin a fresh selection process.
44,203 Vacant Posts to be Filled
In accordance with the Supreme Court's April 17 directive, the state government plans to fill a total of 44,203 teaching vacancies across West Bengal. The recruitment process will replace the controversial appointments made during the 2016 cycle, which the apex court termed “entirely vitiated” in its April 3 ruling.
The revised process aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and efficiency, with strict adherence to new guidelines.
Parameters and Selection Criteria Finalized
As per the late-night gazette notification issued by the state government, the recruitment process will include multiple evaluation components:
-
Written Examination: 60 marks
-
Educational Qualification: 10 marks
-
Teaching Experience: 10 marks
-
Interview: 10 marks
-
Classroom Demonstration: 10 marks
Candidates will also receive a copy of their OMR sheets after the written exam, a step toward transparency and accountability.
Special Consideration for Non-Tainted Teachers
Discussions at the highest levels are ongoing to offer relaxations to the 15,403 teachers who were allowed to return to schools until December, as per the Supreme Court’s interim relief. These teachers, not found specifically tainted, may receive additional points for experience and classroom performance, providing them a possible advantage in the new selection process.
Political and Legal Backdrop
The recruitment process has gained political traction with both state and central leaders weighing in. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the state government for jeopardizing the future of West Bengal’s youth, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee defended the state’s efforts and criticized the Union government’s policies on education.
The hiring process is being monitored closely to avoid further controversy and ensure timely implementation by the December 31 deadline.
Tragic Impact: Mental Health Concerns Rise
The Deserving Teachers Rights Forum reported the death of one of its members, Praveen Karmakar, allegedly due to stress caused by uncertainty over the new hiring policy. The group continues to demand automatic reinstatement without reappearing for exams.

The detailed recruitment notification will be published on the official WBSSC website:
