Gahlot steps in after complaints of poor frequency of DTC buses
details

NEW DELHI

Transport minister Kailash Gahlot on Sunday said he would review all the changes and modifications done to bus routes and their timings after reports of inconvenience faced by people due to DTC altering routes.

"All changes and modifications made in the routes or timings (for dead mileage optimisation) will be reviewed personally by me soon. Necessary action will be taken so that no inconvenience is caused to passengers," he said.

Department sources said the waiting time had increased on some routes due to changes made last week. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) recently implemented dead mileage optimisation to save energy. When a revenue-gaining vehicle operates without carrying passengers, such as when coming from a depot to begin its first trip of the day, that journey is regarded as dead mileage as the service provider earns nothing.

Bus routes were redesigned in a way that the first stoppage would be a short distance from the depot. Sources said that 51 DTC and Delhi Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) routes were transferred to each other which led to the increase in waiting and travel time on some routes. The DIMTS runs cluster buses

Manoj Sharma, general secretary of the DTC Karmachari Ekta Union, said: "What has happened is that some routes that were with the DTC has been given to cluster (buses) and vice-versa. This has led to increase of buses on some routes decrease on otehrs."
