Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Sudden Change Brings Heavy Rains and Strong Winds

Date: 1 May 2025
Location: Delhi-NCR

The weather in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) took a sharp turn on Thursday with heavy rainfall and stormy winds hitting several areas. The sudden downpour caused disruptions on both roads and in the air, impacting traffic flow and flight operations.

Key Highlights:

  • Windspeeds exceeded 40–60 km/h in many places, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

  • Areas like Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad reported dense clouds and reduced visibility.

  • Several trees were uprooted and power outages were reported in low-lying areas.

  • Flight delays and diversions occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to turbulent conditions.

  • Metro services ran with slight delays on some lines due to waterlogging near certain stations.

  • Commuters faced long traffic jams during peak hours as roads were flooded in parts of Central and South Delhi.

Weather Department Advisory:

The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has predicted more spells of rain and gusty winds through the next 24–48 hours. Residents are advised to:

  • Avoid traveling during peak rainfall hours.

  • Stay indoors during lightning activity.

  • Keep emergency contact numbers handy.

  • Watch for updates on public transport and airline rescheduling.
