Telangana HC provides relief to K.T. Rama Rao; no arrest till December 30 in Formula E race case
details

The Telangana High Court has provided interim relief to K.T. Rama Rao, former Minister and working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), by ordering that he not be arrested until December 30, 2024, in connection with a corruption case related to the release of funds for the Formula-E Race. The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had registered the case against him.

Justice N. Shravan Kumar Venkat issued the directive on December 20, 2024, allowing the investigation to proceed while mandating Mr. Rama Rao’s cooperation with investigators. The next hearing is scheduled for December 27.

Mr. Rama Rao filed a lunch motion in the Telangana High Court seeking protection against coercive actions. Meanwhile, he reiterated his readiness to address the allegations legally and maintained that there was no corruption involved in the case. He cited Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s earlier statements clarifying the absence of irregularities. He also emphasized that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was authorized to utilize funds for city development activities as per its governing Act.

The controversy surrounding the Formula-E race has sparked political tensions, with the BRS raising strong objections in the Telangana Assembly. Despite the ongoing inquiry, Mr. Rama Rao has expressed confidence in proving his stance.
