  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rain in the city and its suburbs for the next two days.
  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked people to stay indoors unless it is absolutely necessary. It has also opened 222 civic shelters across the city for people who are stranded due to the rain.
  • The Mumbai suburban railway services have been disrupted due to waterlogging on tracks. The Central Railway has cancelled 88 trains and diverted 58 others, while the Western Railway has cancelled 64 trains and diverted 48 others.
  • The Mumbai Metro services are also running late due to waterlogging on the tracks.
  • The BMC has deployed 16,000 personnel, including fire brigade and disaster management teams, to deal with any emergency situation.

Here are some tips on how to survive Mumbai rains:

  • Avoid venturing out if it is not necessary.
  • If you must go out, wear a raincoat and carry an umbrella.
  • Do not drive through flooded areas.
  • Be careful when crossing roads, as there may be potholes or other hazards.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and do not take any unnecessary risks.

If you are stranded due to the rain, contact the BMC on 1916 or the Mumbai Police on 100.
