SSC Junior Engineer (JE) Recruitment 2026 – 1748 Posts, Apply Online

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC Junior Engineer (JE) Recruitment 2026 notification for 1,748 tentative vacancies. The recruitment includes Junior Engineer posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Telecom disciplines, along with Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Eligible candidates can apply online from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 through the official SSC website.

SSC JE Vacancy 2026

SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies for Junior Engineer and related posts across various Central Government departments and organizations.

Vacancies are available in organizations such as:

  • Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

  • Central Public Works Department (CPWD)

  • Military Engineer Services (MES)

  • Brahmaputra Board

  • DGQA-NAVAL

  • Farakka Barrage Project

  • National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO)

  • Department of Telecommunications (DoT)

  • India Meteorological Department (IMD)

  • Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships

  • Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying

  • Other participating Government departments

The SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancy details. Candidates should contact the concerned department for such information.

Educational Qualification

The required qualification varies according to the post.

Junior Engineer – Civil

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, or

  • Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering with two years of relevant experience in planning, execution or maintenance of civil engineering works.

Junior Engineer – Electrical/Mechanical

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or

  • Three-year Diploma in Electrical, Automobile or Mechanical Engineering with two years of relevant experience, wherever prescribed.

Scientific Assistant – IMD

Candidates should have one of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Computer Applications, or

  • Degree in Electronics/Telecommunication Engineering.

Junior Engineer – CPWD/MES/DGLL

  • Civil JE: Diploma in Civil Engineering

  • Electrical JE: Diploma in Electrical Engineering

Junior Engineer – Telecom, DoT

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology in disciplines such as:

  • Electrical

  • Electronics

  • Electrical Communications

  • Computer Science

  • Telecommunications

  • Information Technology

  • Instrumentation

Note: Where experience is prescribed, it must be acquired after obtaining the required educational qualification.

Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on 1 August 2026.

  • Maximum 30 years: Born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008

  • Maximum 32 years: Born between 02 August 1994 and 01 August 2008

Age relaxation is available according to Government of India rules.

Application Fee

The application fee is ?100.

Fee exemption: Women candidates, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.

The fee can be paid online through:

The last date for online fee payment is 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM.

Selection Process

The SSC JE 2026 selection process consists of:

  1. Paper-I Computer Based Examination

  2. Paper-II Computer Based Examination

  3. Document Verification

For candidates opting for certain BRO Junior Engineer posts, Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Standards will also be applicable.

Final merit will be prepared based on the applicable normalized examination scores and post preferences.

SSC JE Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Paper-I

Paper-I covers:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning

  • General Awareness

  • General Engineering/Science subject according to the post

Engineering/technical sections may include:

  • Civil & Structural Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Computer Science & Information Technology

  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

  • Physics/Telecommunication, as applicable

Paper-II

Paper-II focuses on the candidate's respective engineering or science subject.

The engineering questions are generally at approximately Diploma in Engineering level, while Computer Science & IT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Physics and Telecommunication sections are approximately at graduation level.
