Meta Launches Superintelligence Labs to Lead the AI Frontier

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) — a new unit focused on developing next-generation AI models and foundation technologies. This move signals Meta’s aggressive ambition to lead in the superintelligence race, positioning itself alongside major players like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google.


Key Highlights:

  • Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) will consolidate Meta’s AI initiatives under one umbrella, including:

    • Foundation models like Llama

    • FAIR (Fundamental AI Research)

    • AI-powered product teams

    • A new team building the next generation of frontier models

  • Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, has been appointed Chief AI Officer to lead MSL.

  • Nat Friedman, former GitHub CEO and AI investor, joins to co-lead applied AI product research.

  • MSL includes a wave of high-profile hires from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, many of whom co-created major models like GPT-4o, Llama, and Gemini.
