Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based travel vlogger known for her YouTube channel "Travel with JO," has been arrested on charges of espionage for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence operatives. Authorities claim that Malhotra maintained contact with a Pakistani official affiliated with the Pakistan High Commission in India, who was expelled on May 13 due to spying allegations. Investigations suggest that she transmitted confidential details, although the specific nature of the information has not been disclosed.
In 2023, Malhotra reportedly traveled to Pakistan, where she met with individuals linked to Pakistani intelligence, including a person named Shahbaz, whose contact she saved under the alias 'Jatt Randhawa' to avoid suspicion. Upon returning to India, she allegedly continued to share sensitive information. Her actions have raised serious concerns about national security and the potential misuse of social media platforms for espionage activities.
In response to this incident, Odisha police have announced plans to scrutinize local YouTube content creators, especially those with foreign connections or large online followings, to prevent similar activities under the guise of social media content creation.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are examining Malhotra's digital devices to uncover the extent of her activities and any possible collaborators.
