New Delhi, May 9, 2025 —
In the latest development following a series of failed drone and missile attacks by Pakistan, heavy shelling has been reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army is responding firmly as civilian populations remain on high alert.
The escalation comes just hours after India successfully intercepted and neutralised multiple Pakistani drones and missiles aimed at military facilities in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, prompting a retaliatory strike in the Arabian Sea under Operation Sindoor.
Firing and mortar shelling were reported late Thursday night in areas including Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, and Kupwara, targeting civilian and military zones.
The Indian Army retaliated swiftly using artillery and precision-guided systems, targeting Pakistani posts involved in the provocation.
Earlier in the day, 8+ drones and missiles launched by Pakistan were intercepted by Indian air defence systems like S-400, Barak-8 MRSAM, and Akash SAM.
India’s military operation — targeting terror hubs and air defence systems in Pakistan — is ongoing, with new precision strikes in the Arabian Sea reported early Friday.
Evacuation protocols were activated in border villages, while blackouts were imposed in parts of Jammu, Punjab, and Gujarat to avoid detection by hostile drones.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed:
"No casualties or damage on the Indian side. Threats were effectively neutralised."
While Islamabad accuses India of “aggression,” New Delhi reiterates that its actions were measured, retaliatory, and aimed solely at terrorist infrastructure.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said:
"India will continue to act against cross-border terror. Escalation started with Pakistan, and we are simply defending our people."
Intel agencies warn of more drone attempts, possibly disguised as civilian UAVs, especially in Rajasthan and Punjab border zones.
Airports, military bases, and critical infrastructure are under high surveillance, and all three branches of India’s military are on heightened readiness.
As cross-border provocations intensify, India appears committed to calibrated, forceful responses without escalating into a full-blown war. However, continued shelling and drone warfare signal a critical phase in the India–Pakistan conflict that the world is now closely watching.
After India intercepted Pakistani drones and missiles, Pakistan launched heavy shelling across the LoC. Read 10 key updates on the India–Pakistan conflict, drone threats, and Operation Sindoor.
